My female breeder is injured!

Not really sure where to post this and will probably post it in my than one thread.

My female has a nasty cut on her back. I know it's a cut because I took her out last night and held her in my hand and inspected it thinking it maybe a parasite but it’s a cut. She probably got if from the spawning slate because it has sharp corners and she is protective of the eggs. Most likely did it chasing another fish away that got to close.

My worries are infections and just wondered if it will heal on it’s own or should I be doing something? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you place her in a q tank I would treat her with neomycin sulfate so an infection does not get in the cut.

Sport, if you have access to a Petmart they carry Melafix, I used it for popeye, it is a natural antibacterial and is safe in the reef. It says it is for damaged fins, ulcers, and open wounds. It is a tea tree oil base and did not hurt anything in my tank. It is also safe for your inverts like anemones.
What ever you do I hope she heals. She is a great little mama.

Jo thanks for your concern. I have E.M. Erythromycin and will leave her be for the time being. She’s still eating like a pig and from another forum I’m not the only one that been through this. If need be, I have a 10 gal. and will pull both of them because I don’t want them apart and treat her and him. I have a clay flowerpot with a nem in it to help them feel safe.
