Ich question for QT of inverts

Am I correct that the *only* Ich risk with adding any invert is that a *tomont* stage cyst could be somehow attached to the shell, live rock, coral plug, even (in theory) soft tissue of a sea hare? Assuming you rinse or dip, there is no way a theront could hitchhike, correct?

If that is the case, and assuming you maintain a dedicated fish-fallow invert QT tank, am I correct that each individual item (snail, crab, coral with plug) needs to spend 72 days in that tank, but those can periods can run at separate times. For example, on day 70 of a period for some snails, you can still add a coral to your QT, then remove the snails 2 days later and put them in DT, because (a) you know that any tomont that came attached to the snails is gone and (b) any tomont from the coral is still a tomont or has hatched to a theront, which cannot attach to the snails and has no fish host to latch to and dies.

Sound thinking? Or does everything that goes in an invert QT tank re-start a new 72 day period? Seems insanely unlikely that a free swimming theront in a fallow invert QT tank could attach to a snail shell.

anything wet thats not properly quarantined does pose a risk of bringing in parasites into your display. you are correct about the tomont stage attaching to the inverts. This is why if you want to be extra safe its best to do a full qt of a min of 72 days. now anytime a new thing gets added to the qt, the clock resets since there is no way to know for sure what stage of its life the ich is in and for how long its been on the inverts being added in. They could bring in a tomont that is gonna multiply in any day. now if thats on the day you are adding the coral to your display, it can infect your tank. A lot of things have to be against you and its chances are low, but it is possible.
