What is this nozzle thing on my Red Dragon?

The pump on my BK Mini 180 died and I was sent what I am told is a Gen 3 replacement pump. It looks identical to my old pump with the exception of the little nozzle in the picture. It has a plastic cap on it. Is it for ozone injection? I did not get any paperwork with the pump.

The new version have AKB funtion on the pump like other BK skimmer not for ozone.

I think I understand - anti-kalk bypass. If I am getting it, I would need the new pump head and a hose to connect the pump head to the port on the motor block. Correct?

Are these worthwhile?

Well. it's been 3 days now,and this 180 mini is simply plug and play.Didn't even have to deal with any initial overflowing.Really started pulling alot of skimmate today. So far,I'm very happy with this skimmer.

You would need the Gen 3 volute to work with the Gen 3 motorblock. The volute has an extra water line coming off of it that feeds water into the back of the back and behind the impeller assembly to keep it cool back there. Calcium and magnesium will first precipitate in a system on areas that are warmer than others, such as heaters, impeller assemblies, etc. This helps to keep the magnet area of the impeller cool and keep calcium and magnesium from precipitating out and depositing there.

What is the typical cost for a replacement pump on a BKM 180 Gen 2 out of warranty?

You should need either an impeller assembly or a motorblock, not both, plus you can reuse your front end. Do you know which one you need?

I was looking at a used 2 year old BKM and wanted to calculate the worse case scenario of having to replace the pump. It's academic now as it was sold while I was flying across the country.

Either $199 for an impeller assembly or $249 for a motorblock.

Hello to all, was wondering im downsizing from a 120g to a 65g system with about 25 gal volume in a sump , it will be barebottom and running all lps chalices , acans, and zoas going to run a high nutrient system. My Q is will a bubbleking 160 be a overkill for this type of system and water volume? any info is greatly appreciated

That's too big in my opinion.... stick with something in the 6" body range (150 - 170 models)

A Mini 160 will be just fine on that system. I had a Mini 160 on a 58g Oceanic for quite a while and it worked very well.

Hi there
I'm having problems with my new Bubble king mini 180 it's releasing loads of tiny bubbles into my sump and the return pump is pumping them straight into the tank it got so bad I had to knock the skimmer off cause there is loads of bubbles under my live rock now
The tank is only set up a week so everything is new I know the skimmer has to be broke in

Any ideas how to stop this?

Regards Robbie

Just give it a couple of weeks without adjusting anything.
The "King" is just breaking in...then it's gonna "rule"

HI Jeremy, I need help! During maintenance on my BKmini180 gen2, I found the o-rings are badly in need of replacement. They have become so loose I cannot fit them anymore:
o-ring at the pump block / impeller against the volute seal
o-ring at the skimmer cup seal

Can you help me find the replacement parts for these?

Thanks!
Ben
