I really hope that things work out. Good thing you had the driver document the damage before he left. I hope that you or AO doesn't have to resort to legal action. I haven't had time hang out much around here since the birth of my son. I read thru the 10 or so pages that I have been deficient on.
I like what you did with the modification of the bike rack pulley. Trying to move the light rack is the biggest PITA for me with the balance of the weight on one side. Now I'll have to use that idea and change my string! BTW, your stand is way over built! Hang in there buddy! |

Well, I'm still excited, even if you don't have a tank yet. You can get everything else ready so that when it arrives, you'll just plug it in and go!

Ok not a whole lot going on. The weather has been perfect so a lot of golf has been played
I did order and get in 100 lbs of Tonga branch. I also started putting actinic light over the rock I've had since Feb to color it back up some. I relocated the chiller housing outside and leveled it. I know have over 400G running in the basement. I also got in a huge ventilation fan that fits in the window. It moves like 3000cfm and seemed a good compromise being cheap and I don't have to drill holes in the wall. Only thing is if there is a big storm I have to close the the window. I talked to AO yeaterday and they said the new tank will be here in early June. Pretty crazy I'll be waiting on this thing for six months. Anyway here are some pics of the rock. It was in great shape and the corraline coverage was excellent! Here is a huge rock. It weighed over 40 lbs by itself! Roughly 20" x 14" Some of the smaller stuff Then in the tubs Good stuff. Can't wait for the tank!

Listen Keith,
I liked working on your tank. But did you really have to go and break it, so I could do it again Kidding. I wish I was able to find this post earlier. I don't have a lot of time to browse and find everyones tank. I am very sorry that happened to you. It really was a nice tank. I can't wait to see your tank set up and running.

Ya I settled on the XMs. There is a pic a few pages back. I went with 3 10ks with 2 20ks in between.
Ron, Believe me there was no one more upset then me to find out that thing was busted! I literaly felt sick to my stomach when my buddy at the warehouse called and told me. It's OK though. Stuff happens I guess. At this point it's really getting on my wife's nerves having 4 buckets of live rock around and stuff not in it's final place. Hopefully in a few more weeks at least that problem will be solved!

Yeah thankfully it was noted on the BOL of the damage. If it wasn't notied and signed off of then you'd only get 50-75% of the value of the goods. They call it 'sealed damage' and most carriers (atleast the big name ones) will stick it to you.
Also if it isn't properly packaged to NMFC standards for that particular item they are shipping they could say damage was due to that. Luckly enough AO ships enough aquariums and understands the importance of a great crate so there shouldn't be any problems. Any ETA on the replacement? |

Well no real news. The tank is almost done. They are drilling holes now so three sides are up. They will most likely finish it up this week. Cure and then ship late next week. I am calling them tomorrow to confirm all that.
Nathan I thought you were dead! j/k I will probably end up orderign some more rock as I doubt I have enough with only 250#. I'm hoping that will suffice with my PVC supports but If I do have to order more 'll let you know. Rock is just perculating away. I have actinics over it to get the coralline going. The last shipment of branch has a small bit of hair algea so I'll probably cut the light on it, I added a phosban reactor there to help. The other though is real clean and after being dark for 10 weeks is showing signs of coralline after being lit 12 hours a day with actinics the last 2 weeks. I had an old ASM G@ that I had on the Tonga trough that the Sedra started leaking some massive current. Like enough that it would physically shock you when you get close to the water. I verified that was the issue (and not another pump or heater, etc) and ordered a replacement Sedra. I have pretty much exnayed the moving company idea and will just get 12-14 people to help. The moving company after looking at the busted one wanted to charge like $2000. Ya right. I borrowed some suction cups from jnarowe so when it gets here we should be OK. A guy in the Dallas club just moved a 560 with 10 people so I think we'll be OK. Going through the door I think is the only tricky part.

A skid, a sled, anything with those furniture slider disks will make it easier on the lifters, especially in doorways.
If you could build a platform with huge rubber wheels (like a wheelbarrow uses) would be awesome. Roll it as much as possible, just carrying it when you absolutely must. |

I'll try to get some pictures tommorow of the area and the issues I'll face then we can discuss viable alterantives. The problem is the ground is not level at all so even if I did have it on big rollers it would be difficult. Anyway I won't discuss further until I show the pics.

Vacation Disaster!
I've had reef tanks now for about 5 years. I've gone on plenty of trips and vacations all those years with no issues. It's down to an artform. The big tanks are so automated the only thing I have to do is add an autofeeder to dump a little pellet food in every day.
My 20G I've had for almost 3 years and when I leave I setup a double float switch and set the skimmer to skim the dryest possible for at least 2 full days before I leave that way there will be no issues. I have done this dozens of times with no issues. Well this weekend both float switches failed and I came home to a total wipeout. Beautiful Derasa that was 6" toast Awesome Teardrop Maxima toast Mating pair of Clarkii's (had for 3 years) toast Huge RBTA toast Awesome flourescent polyped monti toast I think some of the zos and rics will survive but I tore the tank down last night and cleaned the mess and put the rocks downstairs with the liverock for my big tank. I'm truly devistated by this but also realize it's a chance we all take. Here are some old pics to remember it by. This is the last full tank shot I have and it is March 2005!! In the end the orange cap on the left grew to about 10", the clowns were at least double their size and zos covered the rocks. I'm pretty bummed but looking forward to the main tank
