Not to change the current discussion.... But I made a discovery about "flow" over the weekend .

I've replaced the stock main pumps with MaxiJet 1200's. I've also got a Koralia 1 shooting across the rear of the tank and two Koralia Nano's one on each side (left right). I leave all three Koralias on full time and thought I had "great" flow.

Ive been having issues with an acropora that I thought was dead; never see any polyp extension, kinda white at the bottom, etc. So I moved this coral up higher thinking it was a light issue - no change. Then while doing other stuff I managed to pump one of the Korali Nanos so that it was facing almost right on the acro... OMG - Poylps came out from every where!

So now I've moved both Koralia Nanos so that they point towards the back section of my tank. This back section is higher up and has a shelf formed by the rocks... So this is now my high light and high current/flow area. WOW what a difference.

So... When folks talk about needing high-flow - What is really meant? If I was using a bigger K1 or larger, perhaps this would be too much flow and I would need to have it not facing right on the coral. But the Nanos do not put out as much and therefore seem to require 'direct' application to be considered 'high flow.

Now Im considering getting two more Nanos' for the front of the tank as Im thinking that given the size of our tanks and the output from the Koralia Nano that indirect flow from them = low to moderate and direct flow (4-6" away) is high flow and maybe all my corals will be doing better?

Anyone else experiemnted ?

ballonpilot, interesting observations. Can you post some video and pictures of your tank in action?

Thanks ballonpilot!

That is very useful info! I don't have the saphire skimmer, I have the aquaC remora nano. It is a backpack skimmer that I have hanging off in the center. The pump is in the center chamber, so I wonder if this fuge will fit of the back still as you describe? Anyone have experience working with these two products?

two questions for y'all
1. does anyone know the PAR for the stock JBJ bulb?
2. has anyone switched to the radium 20k bulb? This is the one I was looking to switch too cause of more blue and high PAR. If you are using a 20k, why the bulb you picked?
Thanks!

giesemann?
those come in a 22k I think. How is the brightness and the PAR on those? They are a little more than the Radium (best price I found is $75)

Yeah thats them...

Not sure on the PAR ratings, but they are certainly brighter than the stock bulb I took out and I love the coloring. I'm also running the Compact Florecent upgrade from Nano tuners

I've got the CF upgrade from nanotuners too. I love having the option of running antinics. I have them on while I have the JBJ bulb running too now. But I think with a 20k it may be over kill and just use them for sun rise/set simulation.

I leave the CF's on while the MH is on. The CF comes on about 1.5 hrs prior and stay on 1hr after MH. Then the LEDs are on for night time.

did you have to re-acclimate your tank to the new bulb? I heard some people having problems with sps bleaching when switching to the radium. Of did you just throw it in and ran your regular photo period?

yeah you can't use me as an example, because I didn't have any SPS in the tank. I did have the factory bulbs in for way too long. I used them for 1.5 years before switching to the 20k radiums. I have a few soft corals/zoas/palys that showed no issue with the switch...

I think it's a good idea to acclimate. It cannot hurt...

Ballonpilot, to post pictures either go to www.imageshack.us or start an account at www.photobucket.com. Upload the image and then copy the tag that starts and ends with [img.] and [/img.] (without the period) and then paste into a new post on here.

My PH finally broke 9.0 so I'm starting into a vinegar dosing program. More details here if you are in the same boat:

What is your secret? I can't get mine above 8.1 unless I'm out of town. Then it gets to 8.35

Got me man (haha). I'm dosing Bionic 2 part - my CA is around 450 but the ALK is really high (so I really don't dose that part of the 2 part ). I dose MG once a week, but it's always measuring lower than it should be. By dosing some Vinegar I'm getting my PH back in the 8.5-8.8 range
