LARGE ANGELS... I am really sorry to hear that it just recently died , on you.Any fish that is nine years old,has an effect on you when it dies. I am certain that it is rare for anyone to have kept their Moorish Idol (s)as long as you have.I know they are a very likeable fish personality wise.
As far as pairing goes,I understand that identifying whether they are males or females is difficult.

I think it was a bacterial infection from a cut. There was a cut on the side that looked like it was from one of the tangs. I couldn't catch it to treat buy it looked like it was healing and closed up. Still eating like a pig. Then all of the sudden I see it between some rocks breathing hard and the area swollen and it was dead by the next morning.

I've never had a problem before and most of the fish have been together for a long time.

fish are like people, the older they get the grumpier they get ! I had a 14 year old maroon clown with mine for 5 weeks and all was fine. and than the clown started chasing the idol. the clown was removed the next day.

Ive had mine for just over a week and it is doing great, eating like a pig. I cant believe how fast its streamer is growing. I was just wondering in nature what the purpose of the streamer is? The only thing I could think of would possibly be a distraction for predators?
thanks
Jeff

Moorish Idol in wrasse dominated tank

Hi,

I've had my MI for 9 months and it's doubled in size. It feeds mostly on nori and a frozen rotation (with Selcon) of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and LRS food. Mine won't touch pellets.

I've had my MI 8 weeks now. He is in the DT and eating food in the water column. I think he is going to make it!

Im gonna be building a 5'x4'x30" tank after the holidays, would that be a good size for a pair?

i would not try it. first, a 5ft tank is to small for just one of these fish. unless they are a bonded pair, the bigger one will kill the other one. they may be together at the fish store but as they mature this will happen. they are an open water fish that need a lot of swimming room and high o2 levels and must be feed at least 4 times a day.

I have no issues with the o2 levels and i already feed my tanks 6 times a day. I may not get a pair or even one but maybe later on try a single. Depending on how i arange my tank. Ty for the input.

...I tried to take pics too,and got the same blurred results. They won't stay in one place long enough to allow for pictures. They are very similar to the Energizer bunny. They do not stay still,24 hours a day,and sounds like some people have MI's,like mine, that eat like pigs. They must have an extremely high metabolism.I am going to feed mine now.

live aquaria 10 weeks ago. no qt, just acclimated to the display and put it in. the boss of the tank. harlequin tusk and blue throat trigger do not mess with it.

My trusted LFS. I bought two, but one refused to eat at home, even though he ate at the store.
They had a few on Monday that have been there over 4 weeks.
