Oh no! And here I was hoping that nobody besides Maxspec would ever build something as cool as this.

Not surprised, From what I understand Maxspect products are all just imported Chinese made products which are rebranded anyway (razor vs.zetlight for example). Often times even the same molds are used for the knockoffs and the only difference is quality control in the factory. Sometimes it's a stretch to even call the factories a factory.

This is all very prevalent in the automotive performance industry. Companies buy large lots factory direct on Alibaba, rebrand them, and act like they engineered them from the ground up.

I for one am very excited about the jebao gyre. The quality of the Maxspect piece doesn't seem very good (bushings, wiring, blades) and at least with jebao it'll be priced where it should be. Will also be able to get them on Amazon prime which is great for warranty stuff.

Jebao gyre

All Murican products are Chinese. Some Chinese products are bette. Others, like Jebao, are getting better. Get used to it and don't get emotionally attached to any products

Sweet I can't wait! I have all jebao products except the ones they don't make yet like skimmer, gyre, and my neo therm heaters. I Might be getting the jebao DP4 soon as well.

Jebao makes a pretty great skimmer called Coral Box with the their adjustable DCT Pumps. They are available at reef breeders and fish street and my local LFS https://www.reefbreeders.com/2155-2/

Looking at BRS videos, gyre is exactly like plasing a powerhead or two near the top of your tank....

Most powerheads just shoot water in a straight line, if you look at vidoes of the gyre that have the flags all over the tank it will show you how it does the circular motion

I saw it and I was thinking any old powerhead would do just about that. You shoot water at the other end of the tank, it'll hit the other side and go down....then it hits the bottom and comes back towards the pump...

Yeah, many will have some level of undertow, but better designed pumps do it better. For example a tunze will generally push water farther than a vortech, but the vortech will have more undertow.

Good. I hope they make it even better.

This stuff doesn't require major R&D - most of it comes from existing technologies in other markets and applications anyway. The "gyre" is a classic approach to moving liquids and gases. Making it work in a saltwater tank isn't rocket science.

The margins the vendors and retailers charge is unbelievable... I would pay 20% more for a new idea. Maybe 30%, but 70%? 80%? come on

+1

I feel they have to market their price high just because they "did it first" kinda thing. I think if they placed a reasonable price on products that people can afford, then there wouldn't be a need to make "generic" brand because everyone can afford it and everyone is going to purchase their product instead of the generic brand.

I guess it's, you get what you pay for kinda thing.

Knew this would be coming along. Interested in how this works out. Although i'm not 100% into the gyre to begin with verse regular dc powerheads.

I'm interested. I was strongly considering a Gyre for my 125 build, and I've always been happy with my Jebao pumps. Hope the quality is at least as good as their RW series.

This is great news. Competition is usually always good for the consumer. I'm a huge gyre pump fan.

To answer a post above about quality on the maxspect gyre. Yes the bushings, mounts, noise, and wiring have all been fixed in the maxspect gyre. The blades on the xf130 is now more durable and the xf150 will get the new blades shortly.

I really hope to see the jebao come out with a nano version and I would pick it up for my 20 long tank.

Excited to see it

Might try it out in our frag tank and if it's pretty good, move it over to the display.

I'm really happy with the 6 WP/RWs we have running in the display, especially since they are now controlled by the Apex... but would like gyre idea and would like to see what it could do for the full tank flow.

Guessing it's not going to be a huge unit, so might need two

Im glad i didn't pull the trigger last month! Overall, I've been content with the two WP25's (individual controllers, bought them before the dual controller came out) but i was certainly looking for something better.
