New large clam I.D please

Hey guys, i picked this clam up yesterday, it was sold to me as a squamosa though the shell looks completely different to the other squamosa that ive scene, im thinking more like gigas with a different pattern?

He's about 14" long 8" wide and im guessing he weighs about 20lbs. Im pretty sure hes off the barrier reef as hes not your typical West Australian clam and i know this lfs imports from over east. He is also very responsive.

Here are the pics..

Looks like Squamosa color/patterns without the pronounced scutes. The shell is more like that of a Crocea. However I go with Squamosa because of its size.

Cool find...

Thanks, im still unsure regarding the shell, it really doesnt have the scutes on the shell like the squamosa. Have you ever come across a hybrid?

No, but I wish I could come across one like that....

New growth will tell us more.. The scutes may become larger and more defined.

Great thanks, how long have you had him in your tank for and how is he going? What lighting have you got him under too? Cheers.

I had him in a 60 for about a year and has been in my 90 for about 2years. It's one of the longest living creatures in there I hope he doesn't grow much more I MIGHT be able to keep him but I was looking to find him a bigger tank somewhere since I can't justify upgrading my tank for a clam
It's grown 2.5 times the size that he was originally. VERY happy clam was under 10000k Ushios now 20000k 2Xt5s http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2160404

Wow very nice, the pattern is close but the shell is very different, im still not sure. Beautiful clam though, would be a shame to sell it.

Exactly the pattern matches and the new scutes on yours are seeming more textbook squamosa. You'll figure it out withing the next few months Nice find!
