So I am thinking of building this reflector, or 3 of them, to cover my 210 gallon and get rid of my spider reflectors. I was going to use some "shiney" aluminum, and was wondering how much difference in lighting I am going to lose compared to the stuff I have seen using the solar tubing, etc. I priced some stuff on the internet, and the material is very expensive compared to the cost of an already built reflector. I have DIY'd everything else on my system, except the tank, and this is just one more piece of the puzzle. I am also interested in putting in a vent to hook up the a/c in my house, and was wondering your opinions on that. I thought about using the reflective tape on top of it from home depot/lowes, and although it doesn't look as good, does the tape hold up to the heat, and will I get a better light pattern than my current setup. I bought a sheet of 25 gauge aluminum for about $12, and although it is not as reflective as what I have seen, it HAS to be better than what I have now.

I'd let to get the file if that's still possible. I have a large scaled printer here at work. If anyone's local and interested I'll print you one, until we run out of ink lol. |

Has anyone noticed the flaw in the design? The corner pieces are supposed to be straight and not bent. The post with the Bud Light Can shows the corner pieces bent while some later pics show no bends on the corners. |

The original links to the extension tubes no longer work. Would this be enough material to do a 14" reflector?
Thanks, -Bob

No but it should make a 12-1/2" to 13" reflector. Just have kinkos or office depot enlarge the pattern so that it measures 20" square and not the 21-1/2" square that it takes to make the 14" one. |

As for the solar tube, you would only be able to fit 1. HTH, Josh

For all those interested in the % increase needed for a 15" or 20" reflector of the lumenbright check out this thread where I posted the info. It is at the very bottom of the page right now.

Has anybody ever tried the Lumenarc for a 150w HQI? I think I am going to give it a try if I can get the plans. Does anybody still have them? It will be much smaller but should still work, I just don't know if I could get the lamp in there.

Thought I would post my own creation. Will try my hand at the lumenbrights next. Will also get newer pics of when I actually have some amps mounted so it is more than just a reflector. In these pics I have not removed the bluish green tape that the material ships with to prevent scratching. I used a product named Velux and it is marketed as solar tubing at Menard's. Enough material to make the two reflectors for $44

i found it easier to not do it in a "Iron Cross" pattern. I found it easier to cut out the octogon and attach with rivots. Made it a lot easier to make all my cuts with what i have.
