So what filtration are you folks using on ~100gal tanks these days?
I'm just curious what you folks are using for filtration? It's been a few years since I looked around and am just curious what is popular now.
HOB bio? Canisters? Refugiums? Skimmers? Reactors? All of the above? Nothing but rocks and sand? |

I'm running a skimmer, a reactor for rowaphos, and two of those The Bags loaded with purigen. (if that one counts)

Nothing but rocks and sand. A filter sock only if there's a temporary reason. A skimmer. Some dosing of vinegar.

Regular water changes, live rock and an efficient skimmer seems to keep my 20 gallon tank afloat, but there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that these same tools/methods couldn't be used to keep a 100 gallon reef tank happy and healthy as well. KISS, GL.

I Have a 84x30x22 inch Tank a 60x18x14 inch Refugium with algae scrubber and a 70 gallon sump with an skimz skimmer rated for 500 gallons. I think with a larger tank a Combination of filtration is best...
There is no sand in my tank but the fuge has about 150 or so lbs in containers so i can clean them out one at a time every 3-4 month rotation.. also over 300 lbs of fiji live rock. |
