High ph

As you can see I’ve been having high ph for the past week. Any suggestions on getting it lower? Thanks

Are you seeing signs of precipitation? High pH isn't usually an issue.

It may not be that high, and you just need to calibrate the probe.

I should also mention it getting patches of green hair algae.

I don't believe high pH is a cause or result of GHA. Elevated nuisance nutrient levels, particularly PO4 & nitrates allow GHA to thrive.

Calibrate your probe.

8.75 isn't going to happen in a normal reef tank unless you're dumping absurd amounts of kalk or soda ash into it.

order it, but have it.

I seal mine in a small glass or plastic jar so it wont evaporate and I reuse it for a while.

You probably will need pH 7 and pH 10 solutions to calibrate the probe. If it takes only one solution, the pH 7 is likely a better choice. It's possible that there's some issues with electrical interference, but I'd calibrate the probe first and see what happens.

I agree that 8.7 for pH probably is a measurement issue. You could spike it that high with lime or soda ash, but the pH would drop back down in a few hours, at most.

read the manual for the proper method to calibrate the PH probes in that system..

Could also be some electrical interference causing false readings..

Or just unplug it and go on happily with life..
I haven't checked PH in 15 years in my tanks..
I do monitor alk though

Along with most of your calcium sticking to the sides of the tank, pumps, heater, etc :-)

That's a good point, too. I often wonder whether monitoring pH is worth the effort.

Another way to bring it down is have a group of people have a debate on politics around your tank : )

How can I avoid electrical interference? If that’s the cause. All the cords are under the stand running to one place.

Separating all the wires (power and probe) from other lines might help. Another issue that seems to crop up is current induced in the water by other electrical equipment. I'd get the meter calibrated before worrying about other equipment.

Have you calibrated the probe yet with 2 points (7.0 and 10.0)?

Since you asked about where to get calibration fluid, I would bet the farm that calibration is the issue. Buy it on amazon if you want.

pH probes are useless if they aren't properly calibrated.

Okay, that's a very good level, actually.
