Now some spare time I had the chance reread the big update. That really is cool the way you did everything.

How are the PVC pipes connected to the flanges? I'm a little concerned about the weight capacity of your shelf. I'm unfamiliar with most of what you will ba putting there so I don't know about the amount of weight it will see. Just looks like a lot of money hanging over water. Seeing pics I have no clue of the stability/rigidity of the shelf. Looks cool though.

The flanges are screwed into the cross beams in the ceiling and the pvc is fused to the flanges using industrial grade pvc glue. I'm sure it could hold me if I wanted it to. The computer and doser weigh next to nothing. The only thing with any weight to it will be the dosing containers when filled.

Thank you. The pics in this thread were taken with a nikon D800, nikon D700 and an Olympus OMD.

The rock under your skimmer in the big container, it does not look like you run any lights over that, am I correct? I imagine you have some good additional flow inside there?

No lights over the main sump. I have flow from the tank coming into the sump on both sides of the skimmer box so there is decent flow. The rock is there just for all the extra surface area. But without the light there is no algae or anything growing on it.

UPDATE!

Just finished getting the new refugium setup and done.
New light hanging above... a 200 watt GROW LIGHT! I swear... i'm only growing marine plants.

There won't end up being nearly that many mangroves in the end. Uprooting them from soil they were in before has put may of them into shock. So we'll see what survives. Eventually I'd like to have around 3 really strong ones that I can prune bonsai-like. The plan is to get the roots to grow large and down towards the rock and substrate. Right now they are really fine, I'm assuming is from being buried in the sand previously. This should be interesting.

Also got my order of AWESOME STUFF from Richard at Tampa Bay Saltwater!
I got rock, gorgonians, macro algae/plants, a few snails, various starfish... TBS is never a disappointment. And if you missed it earlier, the substrate is mostly fiji mud with just a little bit of my old sand mixed in. Been curious about it and figured some kind of mud-like substrate would be good for the plants. And no, this is not "miracle mud"... this is actually natural mud from Fiji.

Here's the pics.
You can see how the water comes in from my chiller through the loc-line. Then it overflows through the large slot into the frag side of the tank. More pics to come later on that side. For now, here's the fuge side.

I'm loving all the life in that fuge. Are you planning on placing any fish in there? I think it could be a cool place to put something that wouldn't play well with other fish in you DT. Something like a scorpion fish etc...

Yeah, i'm going to put some banggai cardinals because they like the mangrove roots. And maybe a couple other small fish. And once the tank is mature and the plants are really taking off I might add a couple seahorses. Thanks!

The fuge side is 22x26x22.
And yeah... that skimmer has been working like a champ since i got it, requiring emptying of the cup every 5 days or so.
