Both do different things. What do you want to accomplish?

I was planning to add the UV to help prevent any unwanted micro organisms and algae control. I understand that it will kill some useful organisms as well ? I started using the Bio Pellets to help control Nitrates but I also have Chaeto . Not sure if I'm trying to over do things

Patience-- hard to do but NOTING happens fast in a reef tank.
Many swear by UV, many do not use them, they do work but need the right flow for the unit.

Bio-pellets and UV have uses for certain problems, but neither are necessary. You can combine both, if you want.
