Herbie return pipe over the tank method

I bought this to run over the top of a rimmed tank for my return line,. but I don't like the connection the nozzle makes to the U, and also the height puts it to deep into the tank, to the tank siphons out allot of water until it breaks the siphon. I'm not interested in drilling a small hole, as I want to do away with this pc:

I also don't want to spend $200 for a Sea Swirl , I paid $250 for a new 65G drilled corner over flow. Before I spend another $200 for a Sea Swirl, I could have bought the Innovative Marine Nuvo INT 75G using a Bean Animal set up for $650.00

I'm using 1" black vinyl tubing from Bulk Reef Supply, but I could also hard plumb if needed

Any pics or suggestions would be great
