DOWFLAKE XTRA Calcium Chloride??
Does anybody use this product? Or know if it's safe to use?

The original two part recipe used it but recently there was a quote from the manufacturer that the ingredients could change and was not garenteed safe in the future. Search on 2 part

A lot of people have used the new Dow Flake Xtra, and it seems to be fine. It might have more bromine in it, but that doesn't seem to be an issue, even when running ozone, which might convert the bromine into a more toxic form.

Thanks for the replies. I might give it a try. Anyone know how much to add per 5 gallons?

I think it's about 10% more concentrated than the original Dow Flake, so I'd try cutting back 10% to see how that works. One of the downsides of DIY mixes is that our ingredients vary a bit in concentration.

The recipes are here:
http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/rhf/index.php#4 I'd try about 2 ¼ cups for the recipe 1 (soda ash) version.
