I consider my 10 modern, it has no stand, no wires showing, and no pumps showing. All hidden in the mech room behind it.
[IMG][/IMG] It's kind of messy right now while I grow out some frags but when i set it up my vision was to create a museum looking piece. Here it is shortly after setup over a year ago [IMG][/IMG]

I don't know if my aquarium could be called modern, but I did my best to minimalize the stand and all equipment. I like the TOTMs that look like they blend perfectly into the room they are in, so thats what I tried to do.

Lol, not to pick on anyone in particular, but I think some people dont get the meaning of the word modern... then again, I think what the original poster was going for was 'ultra-contemporary' or 'ultra-modern'.
My system is on its way to ultra-modern... just waiting on the gloss black cabinet doors (Kraftmaid Venicia). This for instance, is NOT 'ultra-modern', but it is modern... Here's a monster one though... |

Yes i was looking to start a modern thread there are many modern aspects but some of the tanks here are less "modern"

I would say more than "some" of them are less than "modern". I find many of them to be less than modern.
I have to disagree with that 3rd pic in the last post being anything close to modern. The last few pics are closer to what the original poster was looking for I think although the rest of the room besides the aquarium is not really modern at all. I studied interior design before getting into the film industry and we spent quite a long period of time studying "modern" design. That was years ago and I do not consider myself a designer anymore but I think I have a basic idea of design still Here for example is a better idea of what a modern room would look like. You can imagine how these elements and designs can be used in an aquarium. I would say that most of the aquariums in this thread would NOT fit in this room... |

I think reefkois tank probably best exemplifies a "modern" design.
New, innovative, minimalist being no stand or any of the usual hoods for lighting. It's definately different and non-traditional. Not to mention very cool looking. |

these things really bother me They just remind me of when you buy a fish, and hold up the bag and think "man, I can't wait to let this out" except there is no "letting it out" Great buy for someone who wants to waste a ton of money on a trapped, unhappy reef system. On the lighter side, people that have little to no reef knowledge will never consider the negative factors and love it Sorry, no offense anyone

My point was that I thought that was more along the lines of what the original poster was looking for. |

Hi Hahn,
I have to disagree with the traditional tank you posted as modern. The tank is clearly traditional in aesthetic. Your tank is looking like it is on the path to modern, something to think about is the space around your tank as well.. For example, you should think about spray painting those reefcrystal salt buckets silver... jk. |

i agree, i believe it is more what cam they looking for. was just trying to tie it to common "brands" people would know and could relate too. it's definitely a step in the right direction. wz- we agree.

Either that, or some just have no sense of design. More definitive terms would include 'post modern', 'ultra modern', 'futuristic', 'industrial', or 'ultra modern' (or heck, even Biomechanical)... in case anyone else is wondering if their tank qualifies. I would class mine as more 'industrial' than anything. While that TOTM from a while back that is built in to the wall with all the flat door panels would be more 'ultra modern'. |

I know what you mean, but that would be considered revival of periods, which are not modern in aesthetic or ideals. This thread was pertaining to the modern era or contemporary.
