Candy Cane Growing Something

Hi all, new to the forum and the world of reef aquariums. I got this candy cane coral and it has been doing great. My question is what is growing out of the side of it? The lower right hand branch has something growing out the side of it and I thought these things grew by dividing at the heads. Anyone see this before?

As you can see in that first pic it is pretty tiny and it doesn't seem to be effecting the health of the branch it is growing on. I will let it grow and see what it turns in to.
