If I had gotten the atb 10.5 instead of the elegance 200 I would have just stayed with it for the new tank. but since I have to upgrade now im thinking of going with bk

I remember
The skimmer business is a difficult game. We tried US-built, Foreign-Built and gave up on it a few years ago. I loved designing them and filing patents but it's a market that is oversaturated and difficult to compete in.

I have owned BK160 and Bubble Magus.
The last skimmer I'll ever buy is my new Lifereef. This is an awesome skimmer: 1. Easily upgradable, just add an extension. 2. Can use any pump 3. Set and forget! Great thread can be found here!

I'm running a Bubble King Supermarin 250 and now with the new set up a Supermarin 300
Hands down the best. Bottom line you get what you pay for in performance and quality.

Just kidding about that being my new skimmer. That Delux 650 sure as hell was a beast though. I do however love my Supermarin! I've owned a lot very very nice skimmers over the last 27 years and my SM is by far the best in terms of quality, efficiency and consistency.

Whats the best skimmer on the market
Back in the day air stone and under gravel filtration also works but I doubt you will use it again. Been in the hobby for 12 years not really long enough compare to OG people here but I tried a lot of skimmer and hands down prizm and ASM are bad skimmer.
Euro reef skimmer might outdated, not be efficient or silent but still a good skimmer. Scott That's a nice new venture good luck

I will bet my Bubble Magus 220A will produce "almost" if not as much gunk as any of these baller skimmers mentioned. Seriously, people spending over $2k for a plastic cone skimmer? I've been down this road before, I understand the quality difference of the products, but I'm not backing down on the difference between my gunk and the amount of it to yours. Oh, and I SAVE $1,500... ha ha ha....

Rating is all relative. It's like buying a car: how much can you afford and what features are important to you. Some will say a Lambo is the best (not what I think but just for demonstration purposes) but it's pointless since many of us can't afford it.
I'd say it still comes down to how you take care of your tank. Your tank will do well with a decent skimmer with good maintenance habits such as livestock management, feeding control and frequent water changes. WFIW, I've been using a 6 year old Bermuda Aquatics BPS-8 and my tank is doing fairly well. |

Best answer for the op: simple, buy what U can afford. Like most things in life (not all, but most), you get what you pay for. It's obvious that a $300 skimmer will not perform the same and isn't as well built as a $1500 skimmer.

So where does one pick up an ATB in the area? Or are most still buying online? If so what retailers?
I'm looking at the ATB 10.5 Delux or the ATB 1260.
