Plumbing for a new system
Dear reef community,
soon I will be starting a project for a new tank. I want to have the filtration room in my basement, while my display tank will be on the main floor. We started renovating our new/old home by removing the ceiling in the basement. And now we are about to close it. Before that, I would like to have the pipes there already, so when I am about to install my tank, I don't have to remove the whole ceiling again. I will be doing a beananimal overflow system. The pipes will run from the basement floor, and go up around 91 inches. They will run 250 inches and cross through the floor up to the tank. I would like to ask which type of pipe I should get, and what size. On his post from 2008, BeanAnimal shows on his diagram PVC pipes with 1.5''. Should I the same? Thank you. |

1-1/4" would be fine for the drains.. 1-1/2 is a bit of an overkill for the flow that a 120G really needs..

ONE THING to remember here --
There WILL BE a lot of water in the pipes so you will need an extra large sump to avoid a flood when the pump is off.
