In Tank Phosphate Reactor???

My thing is this; I only & will only use tap water for my system. Phosphate from the tap registers at 2.5ppm. The tank, 0.5ppm so the water going into my auto top-off adds phosphate to the tank. Silicate readings are negligible.

Since I already have an AC PH 802 (400gph) I just purchased the 7" filter that pops onto it & plan to fill it with Kent Phosphate Sponge (ceramic based).

Has anyone tried this & what, if any are the forseeable negative effects on the tank? I want to remove any hinderances for the spread of coralline.
