What is This Little Worm?

Hi,

My tank has been up for a few days now and I have seen a couple of these little worms. I saw one in the sand and one on a rock. They are probably about 1/7" long. I want to know what they are because I'm afraid they may not be good for my tank. They are clearish in color with a very slight red pigment to them.

You need to be a little more specific, can you get a picture?

I tried to, but it's so small and so fast that I can't. I don't think it's a bristle worm, or if it is then I've never seen one that small. Are bristle worms good for your tank BTW? And all I can really say is that it's pretty translucent with a slight red inner body and looks almost more like a caterpillar due to the fact that it kind of scurries over my rock, it doesn't really squirm like you would expect a worm to.

Are you sure it's actually a worm and not an amphipod?

Does it sound like an amphipod? I'm pretty new to this, actually really new, so I'm not really sure what all the amphipods and copepods and stuff look like or what they even do really.

I looked at some pictures of some on Google and I don't think that's what it is.

The scurrying part, the size, and the color sound like it. Usually you see them curled up like this, but when they're scurrying around or swimming they look quite different. All the legs easily make it look caterpillar-like.

After seeing your 2nd response, maybe an isopod?

Go here and read post number 3. That is a pretty good description of what it is.

Take a look here, here, and here. Even if you don't find it, they're great links for future reference.
