Hydrofoamer pump for Vertex 150? - Page 2

Sorry for reviving this thread again, but I bought a tunze 9420 to replace the original pump of my vertex omega 150 since the impellor broke. It fits pretty good but I've been unable to get the same kind of foam as I had before. The foam will rise but it's unstable and bubbles will burst sending lots of water in the collection cup. Before I had a nice thick foam and thick skimmate as well.

I tried raising the skimmer a bit but It didn't appear to help much. Can anyone help?

Do you know how close the 9420.040 is in terms of water/air output as your old skimmer pump? If it is a big decrease or increase it is not likely to work well. Were any adapters needed or anything which could change the performance?

From what I could find online the stock pump had only about 250 lph air the 9420 has about 600 lph. The 9410 would be closer but still stronger. The pump is too strong.

According to some sites the Vertex Omega has about 800-850lph just like the Tunze, though it's a bit different on several sites.
The connection fits perfectly so I don't think there's an issue there.

You are correct, I had misread GPH and LPH. Do you have the old one to compare needle wheel size and pin count?

The skimmer is still working, and gets quite a bit of crap out, it's also a lot quieter. I'm just feeling the skimmate is not as much as and definitely not as thick as before. I also have some red cyano issues since the skimmer change.

The 60Hz version of 9420 has 2.5 rows of needles, the 3rd set is cut in half. The Vertex needle wheel looks more like the 9430 pump which for 60Hz has 3 full rows of needles.

I have a similar question. I would like to replace my Sedra 5000 on my ASM G3 with either the Tunze Hydrofoamer T9420 or the T9410. Which do you recommend? I've been unable to find any specs on air or water flow on the Sedra. Thanks for your recommendation.

It would be impossible to recommend without knowing the original air and water flow, we would need to match that closely to get good results. I also was unable to find this info.

I did find out the the Sedra 5000 output is 500 gph. Can't find the air intake specs.

As I recall the Sedra was kind of an Eheim 1260 clone, it did not have the big volute and therefore had very limited air capacity, if I had to guess it would be about 300 gph water and maybe 150 of air. I would imagine the 500 was the water only flow rate before conversion to needle wheel. I think the closest would be a 9410 but I cannot do more than guess.
