I didn't even know MARS existed. Everyone welcome or invite only?

Good morning! Glad you found us. All are welcomed... whether you have a tank, used to have a tank, want to have a tank. I'm a bit biased but I think we've got a great group of people and some fun events. You don't need to be a paid MARS member to attend the meetings but there is some very good value in membership.

Awesome. I'll look into it. I may or may not make it this month, I work from home (fabricate holsters) and raise my 2 year old daughter so my schedule is a disaster.

For what it's worth, my biggest tank. 65gal freshwater (will eventually be converted to a reef tank within 12 months and maybe an octopus only tank in a few years).
It's currently undergoing redecorating. I'm building a custom slate structure with happy places for everyone and replacing the rocks with sand. There are a couple live plants in there, I'm pulling out the fake plants and adding 4 sword plants and anything else interesting. I got the tank (34x18x24),stand and light (2 95w actnic bulbs, 250w 14k MH DE I swapped for a 6.5k and 8 moonlight LEDs) on craigslist for $120.

Stocklist
10" common pleco
3" African Featherfin catfish
4 marble veil angelfish
1 platinum Veil Angelfish
1 Koi Veil angelfish
1 mystery snail
A handful of ghost shrimp and the occasional fry from my wife's tank for the 4" Black Ghost Knife fish.

Took the rock out and put sand in (play sand SUCKS!). Took 24 hours for the water to clear up, the knife fish (almost blind) had a field day flying around the tank while it was murky. Everyone is happy but the pleco. He has developed white stripes. I was scared he was sick but a little research says this is normal behavior to many situations. A change of the entire tank is an easy cause, water parameters are identical to before the move (i used 30 gallons of old water, the ceramic media and bio balls were isolated until I was sure the new water was declorinated).

I hope you don't mind but your photo wasn't showing up so I reposted it. You have a really clean Freshwater tank. I can't wait to see what you can do with a reef tank.

65g tank changed again. Almost done, just needs a couple more tall plants.

New critters

I haven't posted tank pics in forever. My tank is currently dominated by a large gigas clam, three anemones, a few LPS, and a handful of acros. It was an acro-dominated tank at one time.

That clam would give me nightmares. You could probably bury your arm in the thing!

Thanks guys! I've had that gigas since 2007. It has survived a lot of stupid things I have done . The clam is the one thing I worry about the most since they are no longer available.

The clam makes it more challenging to grow SPS since it competes for calcium and alk.

They are endangered in the wild and extinct in most areas.
