brooklynella
My clownfish had what I think was brooklynella. I treated them with formalyn for 4 days, they recovered and I put them back in the main tank only to watch them come down with brooklynella again.
I have placed them in the QT and treated them again. They are doing well. I plan on leaving them in QT for 4 to 6 weeks now. I have other fish in my main tank that all seem to be unaffected and doing great. I have a hippo tang, yellow tang, male watanabei angel, clown fairy wrasse, orange lyretail anthias, banded cave goby, neon cleaner goby, an LTA & a RBTA, 2 cleaner shrimp, 7 peppermint shrimp, 2 sea cucumbers, anemone crab, 2 porcelain crabs, lots of hermit crabs & assorted snails, etc. This is all in a 110G tank with about 200G total volume. I have turned on my UV sterilizer. My question is: Will the brooklynella remain present in my main tank? Will the other fish be carriers even if they are not affected by it? How do I know if and when it is safe to put my clownfish back into my main tank? Thanks, Jim |

Brook needs a host fish to survive, it is more common in Clowns but other fish can host this parasite..You really should remove all the fish, give them 3 formalin dips 2-3 days apart and place them in qt for a month so your tank can go fallow..This should kill of the Brook

That's what I was afraid of. Unfortunately, my QT is 20G and the clownfish are already in there. I have no way to QT this many other fish.

Well,
I can tell you that all my other fish still remain unaffected and healthy. They are all still in my main tank. I think I will just wait 4 to 6 weeks and try reintroducing my clownfish. Jim |

I had brooklynella in my 65 g fish-only tank. not sure where which fish it came from.
Within a few days of seeing symptoms (after misdiagnosing and treating for Ich) it wiped out all my fish (coral beauty, 2 clowns, engineer gobi, 2 cardinals, and a royal gramma. The only fish that survived was a watchman gobi, that didn't show any signs of the disease. I gave him a FW dip, and put him into quarantine with a few hermits that also survived. Two weeks later he is still doing fine. I tore down the tank, bleached everything, and set up 2 additional quarantine tanks for my 90 reef and to restock my 65. Not taking any more chances, everything going into my tanks now will go through a 72 day quarantine period. it's a long time, but it will pay off in the end. |

My suspicion - based on your description - would be that you actually had a Amyloodinium (velvet) outbreak.
