Running bioballs wet fully submersed with no trickle?

So i had a filter sock running where the bioballs were supposed to go. i removed it today and am going to run without it. i keep my sump water level high and dont use the trickle attachment. I am considering putting the bioballs back in there and running them wet and keeping just enough of them in there to tumble and get blasted by the overflow inflow line. will they actually help bio and stay clean not becoming a nitrate factory this way or should i just run without them?

yeah thats what im going to do. i reworded my google searches and found old posts on here about the same thing. they still arent generally acceptable even when wet i found. Not porous enough to harbour both types of beneficial bacteria. I'm going to throw in some more live rock there or some more marine pure blocks eventually it looks like.
