pensil urchin and white mucus

My friend bought a pensil urchin and as he is aclimating it, it is letting out this milky liquid... Is that stress and is it bad for the tank to put that milky water that's in the bag in the tank?

The urchin is spawning. This is likely induced by the stress of shipping/acclimation. But don't expect your friend to find any baby urchins!
