Peter, you said you are planning an upgrade to your fish room. I do not know if you have talked to Orphek lately? There are a lot of great upgrades in the pipeline. One thing they did for me, I did not want to have to program 8 control boxes so they made a system that can be controlled from my apex controller. Now I can set sunrises midday, sunsets & night viewing all from my computer.

Just an update to let you know that the newest video chapter, Episode 4, is now available in Peter's Phanfare album and on YouTube. This episode allows those who couldn't attend the Open House on October 21st in person to join Peter on a guided tour of the tank and fishroom.
For a guy who spent the day in a chair with a broken ankle with his camera beside him I think Rob did a pretty good job of this video. Enjoy! Dave.M

A Big Thank You
DaveM. Thank you very much for all the help in making this available to our community. This continues to be supported by members of the forum and we all benefit from your efforts.
Rob Baxter did a great job on this video and I am looking forward to the feedback to help us with the next one. Thanks very much Rob. Now the folks who couldn't be there for the tour can get a feeling for the experience thanks to your efforts. I also have to thank Mr. Wilson for supplying all the food and helping with the hosting duties. His competence in this domain continues to be unmatched in my two years of experience working with him on this project. We are in the middle of making some significant changes in the fish room so stay tuned for more excitement........ Peter

We tried a new material for scratch removal last week. We have been using the small (2" x 2") micromesh sanding pads for manual scratch removal on the wet side of the tank.
We decided to try the larger micromesh pads with the Magfloat cleaning magnet. The magnet has the "male" half of velcro on it, and the 5" dia. round micromesh sanding disks have the "female" counterpart. If we use two 5" disks, we can cover the cleaning magnet with a bit of an overhang. Since it is wet-sandpaper, it works perfectly fine underwater. The magnet attachment gives you access to areas you can't reach by hand. The velcro holds the micromesh firmly in place and an outer microfibre cloth protects the outer magnet form scratching the acrylic. There are 7 disks in the set, ranging from 1800 to 12000 grit. |

nice!
how does it work for scratch removal? how does it compare to weight lifting for burning calories? maybe a workout video?

It's still a workout for a guy in my shape. It feels like you are doing Tai Chi as you drag it back and forth. I picked up some of these algae pads from See Clear at MACNA. I noticed Champion Lighting is carrying them as well. They work very well and don't appear to scratch the acrylic. If you move the magnet length-wise it works better, as the mesh that bunches up at the end works like a scraper. |

First of all, I need to congratulate you for the incredible reef you have created.
I'm about to start a +1000 gallon system, you have inspired me although I haven't posted in the thread yet. Here goes the question, Have you noticed any magnesium depletion after having the mangle forest? Any tips? Thank you very much and congratulations again |
