BTW - LOTS of baby cerith deaths from the treatment. I scooped out about 20 or so prior to the treatment just in case - threw them in another tank. I figure about 200 were killed...

James, you just have not had any luck man. I lost a milli last night to RTN. Just got it too. That's the way the cracker crumbles. I fragged it for a friend of mine, and I'm pretty sure that did it in. I checked everything and it looked good. :/

Wow this has been an amazing read, albeit long. It's taken me a good 4hrs to get through all 28 pages but I was working too! The nice thing about purifing DNA is there are some long incubations. I've taken a lot from this post and will hopefully be able to put this info to good use. I'm currently working on plans for a large tank ~300gal once our house is built. My in-laws build basements so I was thinking of them pouring the base for my tank with concrete Keep up the good work and please update us on your progress.

Wow, I finally made it through the whole thing. Seems like it has come full circle. Old tank had problems and now the problems with FWE treatments. I hope for the best. I registered for your site. When the next Sand Trade comes around im in. Great to see someone else with a Sailfin. There are a couple of different kinds. The Dijardini are really pretty.. as a adult the stripes change to Dots. Not that it matters .. just thought I would share that.

Any updates?

Update is as follows:

Did the second round of FWE - double dose. Didn't do a thing to the remaining flatworms.

I'm going to have to do it again..

Habib - if you're still subscribed, what do you recommend I do with the third dose? 3X, 4X?

Can you give us an idea of where the strength of the product is recently? I've been asking around and it seems like the consensus is that you need to double triple, and in some suggestion 5X the dose..

Hey James, do you use up an entire box per treatment or will it cover many? My 29 has some flatworms that are getting out of hand.

James, I must say, your tank is incredible. I am in the process of rebuilding my tank in a new house, and want to follow your technique closely. Would you mind posting pics of your sump/equipment? Did you need to reinforce your floor for the weight of the tank?

Thrlride - I would suggest a whole box for your 29. I'm pretty sure I'll have to use 2 whole boxes for my 90.

Scorch - Thanks! No reinforcement. My house is very new and all the floorjoists are engineered lumber so Im pretty sure they'll hold. In regards to the sump/equipment - I put together a video that breifly explains the sump system. It should be a couple pages back.

I think that was the wrong file Adam. That was just a movie of the tank though it was a great one. Funny to hear the 'funky music like sharktale' I don't remember hearing Alice in Chains in sharktale.

The only thing in the tank now are snails, crabs and two peppermint shrimp. Plus 1000's of flatworms so I'm not too worried about killing anything (though I don't want any of this to die)

No meeting yet. As far as recovery from the FWE treatment, I'll let you know tomorrow morning when the lights go on. I've been away from my tank for a week so I'm not sure.

James, again I'm sorry you had losses. Did you happen to see my recent flatworm thread here in this forum? (It was done in humor, but don't tell anyone. Our secret.)

Your tank must have been really really really infested. Did you siphon out all you could see daily for at least a week or more before treating?

A club member recently sold off his reef's livestock to a bunch of members, and everyone that bought from him ended up with flatworms. I got an icechest filled with frags that I opted to put in a frag tank away from my reef, and after letting those corals settle in for a few days, I treated the tank with FE. Actually, I overdosed the tank because I was busy that day, and didn't follow procedure. There were only a handful in sight because as I added each frag to the frag tank, I shook them well in a bucket of (280g reef) water to remove detritus and flatworms. I saw bout 30 in the tank 5 days later, and nuked them. I ran fresh carbon almost 6 hours later (Magnum 350 filled full of carbon) on the 28g frag tank, and nothing seemed affected other than the baby brittle starfish. Yesterday when I bagged up some frags for the club raffle, I saw some starfish hugging the corals, so maybe they were only stunned and didn't die at all.

missed the thread Marc. I'll search for it.

Oh - and yes, I syphoned for a few weeks. So much so that people on my forum were bugging me and asking me when the heck I was gonna get around to doing it.

I even syphoned with a canister filter for about 2 hours straight - basically so that I could continue to suck out the worms without draining the tank. The infestation was pretty harsh. When I did the treatment, they all came out of the rock - I have some significantly porus rock (marshall islands) with a LOT of little nooks and crannies that they were hanging out in.

When the treatment started taking effect, I ran the canister filter again to essentially take the worms out of the water - I also ran several pounds of carbon and did the 25% waterchange.

I did everything that the directions told me to - to the best of my ability. It's unfortunate, but I'll have to do another dose to finally rid them. I'm on my second box of FWE - the first one was completely used up with the first 2 treatments.

Wow - thanks for the dedication of reading this! Means a lot. I'm gonna update my pictures soon once I load them up to my website.

I'm still fighting the flatworm battle - the next treatment is scheduled for tomorrow...
