Ok. I just went this past weekend and I was going to put my pictures up but they are definitely not as high quality as the ones in this thread. jwedehase, you are a much better photographer than I am.

But I did go on the behind the scenes tours and have a few pictures of the top of the ocean voyager and the top of the reef tank, skimmers and lighting and a couple other things. I guess I will post them in here soon.

Well, the cichlid tank shots were among my 300 "didn't make the cut" shots, but here's what I had. I felt sort of out of place taking these photos. When I take reef photos, I know how to make something interesting, because I know what I'd be looking at, or whatever. I've never had a freshwater tank. Sorry they're less than spectacular.

I aslo wanted to note, just FYI for those into the camera specs. The 20D has a 1.6X multiplier, so that 28mm lens, is really a 44.8mm lens ("viewable image") when shot with standard 35mm camera equpement.

That image stabilizer looks to help tremendously, I wanted the IS but, went with the 10-22mm lens, as to get a true wide angle on my 20D. Another money-sucking hobby

I've been there. Was lucky enough to sign up for a VIP passes.

We went on the 2nd weekend and it was crazy. Make sure you can buy tickets before you show up. If you get the VIP passes they have a signup deal where you can book times and are guaranteed to get in. We didn't do this, but got the name of the group booking lady to reference to let us in.

The best time to go would be on a week day morning when all the kids are in school, etc.

Being the biggest aquarium in the world I was a little disappointed figuring it would be more walking areas and viewing tanks, etc. But you have to keep in mind it's the biggest aquarium in the world and they designed it in such a way where there is less walking around then one would expect.

Definitely worth at least a one time ticket and a follow-up to the reef in a year or so when it starts to mature.

The whale sharks are absolutely amazing and the school of stingrays swimming over head in the tunnel is absolutely surreal with the light shining down through!

Your "Fish" Basking in the sun are actually white sturgeon. Awesome shots. Anymore of the arawana tank? I want to check out some arapima.

21Reefman, I used ReefBucket.com, not Photobucket. However, I did shrink down the images to posted size, so I could control how the image is displayed, rather than trust someone else's resizing. Having a 20D yourself, you certainly understand how large these original files are. 3504x2336 just isn't so Web friendly! 10-22mm?! WOW! That would be so sweet! The biggest downfall of this DSLR world is the magnification factor. None of my lenses are what they used to be, and I can't see purchasing an EOS1DS anytime soon.

BaskingSpot, thanks for the ID. I had no idea. Here's the only shot I have of the arawana tank. The tree limbs that created the exhibit ranged from 2-5 feet above the water. The whole exhibit looked like a jungle river scene. The glass was above the water by probably 2 feet, as well.

Funny, the "Bare Bottom" craze doesn't seem to have hit there yet. Sand everywhere!

Just got back from my trip. I must admit I wasn't really blown away or anything. Yea it's huge, but they had a TON of unhealthy looking animals, particularly in their River Scout gallery. Very crowded displays as well imo. The 6.2 million gallon is very impressive, however. The lighting and sillouhettes created coming through the tunnel definitely give you the sense you are in the environment with them. The whale sharks, at only 18-19' still just seem absolutely massive, especially if one happens to pass right in front of you!

I took a number of pics but few turned out clear enough to even begin to compete w/the original poster's, but I did get some killer videos

If I had to sum up the visit I'd say it was okay. I had a horrible time navigating through downtown Atlanta for one, and the aquarium itself just didn't offer anything outside of their huge display to really stand out, just pack as many animals into the system as possible. A few interesting exhibits (the small australian file/puffer exhibit and the chimaeras to name a couple) and the centerpiece exhibit make the trip fun and enjoyable, but I just wasn't wowed like I had hoped to be.

Contact your favorite mod and see if you can get their help. It won't be easy, but if you can have all the URLs ready for each post, they'll be more inclined to assist you.

Or start your own site finally, and quit relying on free sites. I buy my own webspace for $96 annually, and have room for 10 gigs of stuff, with 250gigs of bandwidth.
