I acquired a sun pod 250 watt 10k halide its 12" off the water and seems to cover the whole tank nicely, I've read alot of posts that one halide is not enough for a 36" tank and now seeing it I would have to dissagree. Should I buy a 14k bulb or would the corals do fine with 10k? This will be the only light over my tank.

I think the corals will do fine with 10k - you just might not get some of the corals to fluoresce nicely (ie. colors won't "pop"). Be careful about having a 250w MH so close to the water over such a shallow tank. I would think you could easily fry some stuff, particularly if the light has a good reflector.

The only problem I could imagine with a single-point-source light is that some corals will get uni-directional lighting. Maybe that's an issue, maybe it isn't.

I had to add a fan. In five hours my water temp went up six degrees, now it stays right at 78°

I like 40G breeder. A very nice size for a small reef.

I just got the new hellolights Iris bulb today, can't make up my mind if I like it better than the 10k....I think I need to buy a phoenix bulb before I make up my mind. The corals do look great unde it.

I am a fan of a bluer bulb, it is all personal preference. Someone mentioned earlier about the "pop" of certain corals under a higher k bulb. Look around and get exactly what you like.

Can you take the legs off the light fixture? It'd probably look a lil better if you did. Everything's lookin good by the way.

Got my rose anemone yesterday, still in the same place I put it. This afternoon I fed it a piece of shrimp, seemed to like it really good. Also got some veitnam eagle eye, sherbet zoas and some green star polyps.

Nice breeder, looking good. I would also recommend to remove the legs off. I also have a 40 breeder, check out my thread Lost Reef 40Gallons Breeder.

I got some Florida Green Ricordia today, from reefs2go it looks great, I put it on a species only rock on the left side of the tank....can't wait till it covers it. I have a small outbreak of red slime, I do weekly 25% water changes with rodi water and I don't feed all that much so it has to be the 250 watt halide on for ten hours a day. I will be cutting down to eight hours and see if that helps.

Wow its been over a year since I posted on here last. Many changes after a horrible invasive algae problem along with canyo. I've since took out some rocks, upgraded my rodi, went bare bottom, wp 25 and new photon 32. I've been able to keep my water stable, dosing kalk and have about 12 varieties of sps. That are now loving their new light.
