First 4 pictures, Waveline DC 12,000 (speed set at 5). Last picture is with a Fluval SP6 which I am still using.

How did you come up with the Fluval? Did you dial down the flow? That's a lot of water passing through the skimmer.

Didn't dial it down. Figured that going through the venturi's small opening, up 3.5 feet, (2) 45's, (1) 90 and back down 3' would knock down the flow a good bit. Gate valve is closed somewhere between 40-60%. Works great.

Here's a couple of pictures showing the pump with only the gate valve on the skimmer output. No other valves for the pump.

The SP6 might have been too much pump, IMO

Fluvals are great pumps. I would go with the SP4.

I was planning on either the SP4 or a Laguna Max Flo 2000/2400

Its the same pump but the Fluval has ceramic bearings.Much better than plastic bearings of the pond pump version. Plus it comes with rubber feet for noise reduction.

Sorry guys. I will post pics tomorrow. The lifereef system has been running for quite some time now. I removed my original reef octopus skimmer and went with the lifereef in sump model. No issues. I also have removed the refugium all together as I did not really feel the need for one. It did grow massive amounts of pods but I had minimum need for them. I have since located my Teco chiller next to the sump.

sunilp: how often do you clean the sponges / filters? Do you need to replace them often?
I just got a lifereef sump and was wondering what the maintenance is like. |

I clean them weekly. They are much more easier to clean than the usual socks. I have replaced the thin filter after about 1 year. I have not replaced the large foam yet as it still appears fine.

Hi SunilP, I was wondering how the system is running. I spoke to Jeff recently and he's going to do me a custom sump with the refugium. I wanted to know if you are happy with your system. I see you have the Algae scrubber. How is the algae in your tank? Do you have his refugium? Or are you just fine with the algae scrubber? I'm looking for as much help and feedback as possible. I was thinking of going with his refugium and maybe the algae scrubber depending the info you can give me. Since it looks like you are in the direction that I would like to go. I'm planning on having a reef aquarium. Hope you could help as I'm new to the marine world. I do have 10yrs on freshwater, which is totally a different animal. Hope to hear back from you. If you could post some new pics I would greatly appreciate it.
