For a smithii, I'd keep an eye on this thread and something may pop up.

There's a thread with Roy's List that tells you what you need to know on the mantis' that are available in the trade. Might want to check it out.

Also, I'm surprised so many people buy G. ternatensis.. I believe Dr. Roy said that the corals they live in are damaged when they are collected. I think we should veer away from that species, honestly.

Double edge sword bro. Stay away from it and it dies in the store from lack of care. Buy it and support the damaging of one animal to acquire another. I will only bash the collectors not the hobbyist on this issue. I can tell you that the demand for mantis is not high enough to create a need to go coral head bashing. I have gone on collecting missions for SPS in the past and have witnessed what damage is done in that portion of the trade when care is not taken to harvest appropriately.

On the flip side I would have no problem informing my local clubs and forums of a fish store that constantly brings in specimens that should not be brought in. So it’s not the buyers fault but rather the fish stores, the distributors, and most of all the collectors.

To some this up buy responsibly, and post pix.

BlueZoo got in a poop load of ciliatas last year. I don't think I'll be able to resist next time I see one on there The shipping sure does bite, though.

Don't buy it. Better to have it die in the store so the store won't make any money and will know not to get it again. Let one die to save thousands. If the coral dies then there won't be anymore Ternatensis

theirs a nice g.platysoma on bluezoo, my g.platy is my favorite of the 4 mantis i have had,she's allways out roaming the tank and doesn't run and hide if you stick your face right up to the glass and get in her face.

while i respect doc roy's vast knowlidge of stomatopods i will allways disagree with his opinion of g. ternatensis colection being harmfull to hard coral heads for this simple fact, the corals are worth 2-3 times what the mantis is worth and if anything i'd be willing to bet that most g.t's on the market are byproducts of hard coral colection and that many mantis are killed or simply squashed by angry colectors who get struck or stabed by the mantis when their trying to colect the corals the mantis live in, so by this logic we should not be buying hard corals to protect the mantis that live in them right?
