Algae blooms with Algae Scrubber?
Hi all,
Maybe someone can explain why this keeps happening. I have a Santa Monica Rain 4 scrubber in my Reefer 350. Ive noticed the algae also attaches and grows on the bottom part of the scrubber. So much algae grows that it reduces the outlet of water from the drain and every time I pull all the algae out my water turns cloudy. It takes a couple of days for it to go back to normal. I went to Home Depot yesterday and bought a larger piece of PVC to increase the size of the drain hole. I hope this avoids water collecting on the bottom part and algae stops growing there. It's really annoying...

You need to remove it when cleaning and rinse with fresh water before putting it back to service. I know, part of advertising of this product is no removal of unit when cleaning.

You are very welcome. I dont have that brand or model, but I know what green and brown "juices" are removed when cleaning the unit.
