ceramic safe for tank?
Ok, stupid question of the day. I just finished setting up my 90 yesterday. I'm running a curve 9 skimmer. It's over kill but a deal I couldn't pass up. As soon as the tank was running, the dimmer was going crazy, filling the cup in seconds even on the lowest setting. It's in 10 inches of water, but I read a lot of people getting better results at 7-9. So I lifted the dimmer body a few inches and everything settled nicely. I needed something quick to set under it so Igrabbed a ceramic casserole dish from the kitchen. It fit perfectly and everything is great now. Is this safe for my tank or should I be looking at something else?

Is it porcelain or ceramic? Ceramic is used in tanks all the time (impeller shafts, media, even rocks)
I would guess porcelain is ok, but I like to be sure I had to setup my skimmer on a set of drinking glasses. Its crazy how shallow some of these skimmers need to be.

Like I said, it's recommended 9-11 inches, but that wasn't working at all. It's at 8 right now and is bubbling perfectly This may change once the tank is established, but my setting is right in the middle at this point.

Something that is supposed to be food safe is likely OK.
Other ceramic objects may not be and people have crashed their tanks putting random stuff into the water. Copper leaching is a big concern.

Some ceramic glazes contain metal powders for colour but are not found in big production food ware. However, old orange fiestaware has measurable uranium in the glaze, good for making your candycanes pop!

I would go to Home Depot and get a sheet of that light diffuser crate and cut it up and make a stand out of that. That way you can still have flow under and around the skimmer. I’m not sure what will happen under a bowl.

4 year old post, have not seen RHF on here for a while but good info there, and I agree on eggcrate and also glass block can be a good solution as well.
