Hi Mike, sorry to interrupt setting conversation. How do you like the spread and coverage with the XR30 radions in the AL fixture mounted parallel? I talked to them at RAP about an option to mount perpendicular. I have a similar sized tank as yours but running 3 G3 pro XR30 perpendicular w RB XHO actinic. I like AB+ but find what works for you, 20 is just bluer.

Been running mine (three XR30 Gen4 Pro and one XR15) for about 9 months now and been very happy with them. I do not run them as my sole form of lighting (also use Kessils), but they have performed well. SPS growth has been very good and color is good.

Mike,
I use sps ab+ but upped the whites to 50% get the color I wanted (and dropped red to 0). I prefer to see the true pinks and purples of the coralline. The yellows look better to me too. I do keep the standard settings during the ramp up and down though.

There's really no concern now regarding shadowing even with the parallel orientation given that I have the T5s as supplement. i know that SPS will get sufficient lighting. When the Radions are on, only when I am home, there is enough coverage for my viewing pleasure. T5s only come on during the day when I am at work.

So how many of the G4 pros would I need for a 250 DD? The foot print is 5' L x 3'W x 2' D with a center brace. So I have a 30" x 36" square on each side to cover. I was thinking 2??

Mike, I don’t have any corals close to the front glass.... so the coverage area is probably a lot less. Looking at the specs they show a 36” x 36” footprint of coverage, is this a lie?

I understand the new optics really help spread the light. I did find
That there was still a bit of shadowing however. So the more the merrier.

Who have used Radiant and how do you like it? I like the very gradual ramping up and down.

Just preordered the light diffusers for my xr15s, can’t wait to try them out.

So these diffusers. I know they have been touted as a big deal, but I'm struggling to see the fundamental difference.
The diffuser will aid colour blending and reduce hot spots, but it doesn't change spectrum or the directional nature of the LED. Edit: $65 each, so that'll be $99Aus. Its a piece of translucent plastic FFS. Last edited by Bronx19; 12/11/2017 at 04:24 PM. |

I think what's really important is the more even dispersion of par, albeit losing close to 20%.
So this makes the G3 more valuable. Where does this put the G4?

That is an interesting point. The premium for the G4 optics may have been neutered.

They’re $45 USD each.
My primary reason for the diffusers are so they stop blinding my wife who is 5’2”. With the new G4 optics, they produce a pretty good eye glare. |
