how big are some of those chips? would they fit in the makersled housing? http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...led-fixtures-0
How much of a heatsink is needed for one of those bad boys? Would makersled be enough space and heat sink?

The actual chip is about 4,5 cm x 4,5 cm. The metal board it's mounted on is a bit larger though.

I have some doubts about using a makersled for this application (although it looks great!!) because ideally you want a heatsink large enough to cover the whole underside of the chip and I think the "channels" in the markersled would mess things up. I hope you understand what I mean.

Hi, I have been reading about Peliter Coolers, as another poster had stated he had tried.
What do you think of something like this as a heatsink, would it cool enough, for one of these chips? Your thoughts.---Rick

High quality Peltier cooling module made by Melcor Corporation. It features a 1 3/16" sq. peltier module mounted to a 2 1/4" sq black anodized heat sink. It has 4 metal clamps that would allow it to be mounted to a circuit board and pressed to the module against the CPU. Can operate from 6VDC @ 1.5 amps to provide a nice cold surface. Cold surface has copper metal surface. Module has color coded leads and connector for power hookup. Brand New!

Do you have any more data on this model? I think it might be a little on the weak side for anything over 50W though.

Yes it works, but doesn't run it at the led max.

I looked again, the company did not give any other specks on it. I searched Peliter and found it on one of the sites.

What do you think about combination of 3x EPISTAR 20W Royal blue and 2x EPISTAR 20W 10000K?

Sounds nice! Remember to always keep in mind what kind of corals you'd like to have in your tank and make sure they get the wavelengths they like!

Okay! This is the situation: My GF is visiting her parents and I have the house to myself. Just got my LED stuff from Hong Kong. So I'm chillin' with a beer, some LED's and a Soldering iron.

This is the result so far:

The LED is mounted and i have soldered the DC connections.

The lens is mounted.

Let there be light!

This is one 100W blue/white multichip. I can only guess that my neighbours are wondering what the hell I'm cooking..

You have to ask your GF to stay at her moms all weak to answer all of the questions you are going to get!

What optic size did you go with and how are you going to keep the glass on the LED? The optics I ordered come with a base but I still believe I need some sort of "holder" for the lens. Wont know until shipment arrives.

Also how much "bluer" is the blue led compared to the combo unit?

Larry

Actually I'm not going to do that. I will be replacing 600W of MH and T5 with about 450W LED. It's mostly going to be 350W 20K/450nm LED and during "peak hours" I will fire up an extra 100W 10K LED. I think it will be fine for my cube. What I probably will do is go without the lenses on the bigger ones though which will make the light less concentrated.

I went with the 60 degree lens. I bought some adhesive to use for mounting. The glass lens can be fixed to the base.

I only use 10K white and 20K white / 450nm blue combos, not pure blue.

Here is a premature question...... I have a 46 bf. I was going to purchase a 175w MH and add 2 blue plus ati t-5. What size multi led would you recomend to get the same affect your getting. I want to be able to keep and grow anything out there. My tank is 36L X 15W X 18D.

The problem with Peliter Coolers is controlling the condensation and you still have to get rid of the heat from their hot side.
