Strombus snails help.

After asking around about sand sifters/cleaners for my 55g, it seems the consensus thinks these would be a good idea, my substrate is not very deep, about 1/2 an inch, will this be sufficient for strombus snails to feed?

I dont want to go get some, only to find i dont have enough substrate for them to live happily, i am told they like to spend time under the substrate, they couldnt get under mine its not deep enough.
