Varios DC pump fails?

Has anyone had issues with premature fails with Varios DC pumps? I have 2 feeding different tanks as return pumps and it seems they fairly regularly seize up due to the impellar shaft sticking to the bushing that sits in the bottom of the main pump body. I rotate pumps so as not to have down time in case this happens but within the last year this seems to become a fairly regular issue. Happened again last night and once the impellar was removed the bearing was once again locked to the shaft. I cleaned this pump a couple weeks ago...there was no buildup on the rest of the impellar. Is there a trick to keeping these operating more efficiently? Could there be an issue with DC pumps? Never had this issue with AC pumps I ran for close to 15 years prior.
