new sebae still in bag in pic -- is he sick?

Hi,

I just this minute got my sebae from LA. It's deflated (f*ck) and stomach out. It's in the bag still. Is he for sure sick already? Or is it just the look in shipping?

ThRower (sp?), is this how yours looked in bag?
Side note, the label does say crispa . Hopefully it's not looking sick, not even touched my water yet.

TY!!

Impossible to tell at this point.
Though I would not take a risk and put the anemone in quarantine first so you can change water more frequently and react immediately should it be sick.

I dont have QT.. still in my small apt. That hospital tank was not QT. How did yours look in bag?
Edit .. it's been floating since I got him. Mouth is tight now. Tentacles thin. Body firm, not relaxed. So might be looking better
* I agree I should have a QT, but I don't. Hopefully I will have one when I move in the next 6-10 months

I've seen them look worse upon arrival. Shipping is tough on them. Do a full acclimation, and when you're done, dump the water. Water that cloudy is likely making the situation worse.

TY Bradleym...
The water actually is pretty clear. I took out the poop lol while it's floating + water aclimation. I have a good feeling this one will be ok.

Take it out and put it in a pyrex container and then place it in your tank without the lid. You should have had a 5-10 gallon tank ready before it arrived.

I just said above I'm aware ideally I'd have a QT.

TY

In my experience crispa can be quite tricky to diagnose. Their symptoms are not as clear cut as with gigantea and magnifica. So you definitely need to keep a close eye on it.

He's in tank. I put the foot into 1 1/2" dia pvc 3/4" tall , he's attached in a minute. Hopefully this keeps him in this spot. We'll see

Looks okay so far. Good luck.

The gigantea I ordered at the same time and which should have been delivered today as well got stuck at the UPS center in Ontario. So instead of today it will be delivered Monday when I will not be able to take care of it until 7pm. So, even if it doesn't arrive as hot stinking anemone soup it is doubtful that it will have a chance to pull through.
Maybe at least the fish I ordered will have a chance...
I know why I normally avoid Saturday delivery - it's nothing but trouble and cost extra on top of that.

My crispa started spitting out funky stuff that looked like a mix of poop and guts. Since I've seen this before and the outcome was never good I decided to start treating it.

There may not have been anything to pull through from. I only asked if he was sick. I didn't know and I wanted to be ready in case it was.

I attached pics here.
Currently of the 'nem. it's foot is in a 1 1/2" dia short pvc. I was thinking it might be too confined in there. **If he was, he would move, right?

1) pic of nem
2) nem and part of tank he's in
I'm nervous to move it to higher light due to every time I do that with my sps they start looking dead. THey are all veyr low in tank, or mid level and off to the side. (I'm not trying to start a new thread... just making a point that Im' nervous on giving 'nem more light).

Should I just leave 'nem where he's at? ... Should I gently take him out of PVC?. I have branch rock to 'nem's left to block too much heavy current, which seems to work.
*does nem look ok?

TY

OMG ThR!!
But at least I dont feel so badly, so maybe it's not my tank. Mine, yes ended up like that.
I ended up getting a bubble from LFS (as I think you saw in new thread). I did that to 'test' my tank to see what happens with local bought. I know BTA is easiest of all anems, but at least it's something, and was a large one, though plain green, but only $33 lol. THat one is doing very well. A few other local bought I also got doing very well. So I'm suspect of online overall, with shipping, etc.
But yes, my crispa dead-zo...:-/

Based on my experiences I would classify crispa as one of the most difficult anemones now, while I find the ones typically regarded as difficult (magnifica & gigantea) are only truly difficult at the beginning but once acclimated and free of infections they are quite hardy and predictable. On top of that, gigantea and magnifica react well to antibiotic treatment while I had so far no success in treating a crispa. Once they start spitting out their innards it's only a matter of time until they turn into a blob of slime.
