Pest ID

Hi all! My tank has a ton of these and I don't know what they are. Maybe they are one and the same but different size. The first one is all the thin hard worm like items and the second is a hard tubular pest that is usually a spiral at the base and a hard tube coming out. I see the item coming out of the tube constantly spreading this thread like stuff out of it. Can anyone help me identify them? Thanks in advance.

Mike

For some reason I want to call them a snail of some sort, though I cant remember why, let me see what I can dig up on them.

Good? Bad?

They seem to grow all over and just stick to rock or corals? Is there a way to get rid of them or are they harmless?

They can be a nuisance. Put a dab of superglue gel over the end of the tube.

That website got the vermetid snails wrong. They can actually be bad and infest a tank really fast.

that suspended thread annoys other coral. i dont think it will kill anything though. i have found some and did exactly what "sugar magnolia" said "gluing the top".the glue will cause the snail to die inside. make sure the glue is safe for the tank. lfs should have some type of coral fragging super glue, that i used. if u have tons of them this might not be the best way to go

All common cyanoacrylate glue should be safe, don't over pay for super glue by getting from a fish store. The gel type is usually easier to use.

Those snails can also grow inside return pumps and other equipment and sometimes cause issues.
