Feeding caulerpa prolifera to tangs
Just wondering if it's safe to keep feeding my naso, blue tang and foxface the prolifera that is growing well in my refugium. I've read bits and pieces about it being toxic to fish, but so far they seem fine.
Also, I'm curious about the risk of it going sexual and causing a tank crash. My refugium is lit by a 90 watt evergrow fuge LED for 8 hours at night. It's about a 50/50 mix of caulerpa and chaeto. Fuge volume is about 10 gallons, display is 120 gallons. |

A 10G sump would have little effect on a 120G dt, unless it was 10G of bleach.
I have grown C. Prolifera for > 30 years. While it is possible for it to go sexual, I see no issue with Tangs and rabbits eating it.

Sorry, I should clarify... The sump is 40 gallons, the refugium section is only about 10.
Thanks for the info, I'll keep feeding them and keep the same timer settings. |

Also if you are harvesting it from your sump, that is essentially pruning it which keeps it from going sexual. That is what I do in my seahorse tank.

Agreed. If the tangs eat it. Feed it. I wish my tangs would hit the cheats. By hey just spit it out
