Brown Tang vs. Yellow Tang

Hey guys I was looking at Bertoni's post on Tangs and the appropriate tank sizes to house them. While I originally planned for a Yellow Tang, my tank only having a 73 display (91 with sump) may be on the small side. Any particular reason why the Brown or Scopas Tang is so much cheaper and is recommended for my tank size (75) over the Yellow (100+) considering they seem to grow to almost the same size?

Thanks!

4ft x 20" wide is probably doable for either tang, although not ideal. I wouldn't add any more large fish.

I'm not sure why the recommendation is different for those two. They are pretty much the same fish. Fishbase actually lists the scopas as bigger.

I think a good bit of those recommendations are pull it right out your butt stuff..
Or at one time was generated by some silly "inches of fish" per gallon or something formula...

It may be because the Scopas has a mellower temperament than the regular Yellow Tang.
Not sure.
I have a Scopas and he's great! And I have a 90.

I expected to get different information based on differing experiences, but I too can't find a consistent reason or if either is even appropriate for my tank. Liveaquaria actually says the Scopas needs more space. Haha maybe this crazy debate for me means I should get neither lol

TWO tangs in a 90?.........tang police.............

IMO, those numbers are just guidelines to ensure success. You can keep tangs in a smaller tank if you have plenty of rocks that creates caves, tunnels and passthrough to keep the fish active.
