Stocking 90 Gallon Tank

Currently in Tank:
1 Molly converted to Saltwater
2 Common Clowns
10 Snails
10 Hermits
1 Peppermint Shrimp

Planned to Stock, in this order, with at least 2 weeks between each line:
2-3 Blue/Green Chromis bought at once
2-3 mild damsels of different types (yellow tail, azure, etc) should I buy these at once or one at a time?
Lastly, 1 Dwarf Angel. Haven't decided which kind.

Any thoughts or advice on this plan? Right now I'm just FOWLR but would like to give coral a try someday.

Think of your long term plan and stock least to most agressive. Flame or coral beauty would work, both are reef safe with caution.

If you have sandbed, would recommend a diamond goby .. the dwarf angel, blenny or a tang should help keep the algae in check.. other than that its just personal preference and fish compatibility.. good luck!

I forgot about the goby. I will get one. But with regards to number and size of fish is that about the right amount of fish for a 90 gallon tank? I have a 20 gallon sump, 150lb of live rock, and a 3" sand bed.

Absolutely.. the number and size of the fish sounds about right.. I personally never had damsals and chromis .. but have heard damsels are on the aggressive side.. i will let someone with similar stocking answer this..

Stocking 90 Gallon Tank

I have an excess of fish in my standard 90g. Most people here would loose their **** at it. My secret is weekly 20% water changes and heavy feeding to curb almost all aggression. Here's my list and a couple pictures :

- 4" blue tang
- 4" niger trigger
- mated pair of snowflake clowns
- flame hawk
- yellow watchman goby
- molly Miller blenny
-lieneatus fairy wrasse
- golden rhomboid fairy wrasse
- pintail fairy wrasse
- laboutes fairy wrasse
- yellow corris wrasse
- leopard wrasse.

I think that's it. Get what makes you happy. That's what this hobby is about. Just make sure you stay on top of water quality if you're gonna stock heavy, it's critical.

I would go with the Coral Beauty over the Flame. Flames definitely have more issues with aggression to tank mates overall than Coral Beauties.

@the OP, I would avoid Damsels and Chromis. Damsels are not good tank mates (aggressive buttheads) and Chromis seem to be hit and miss with whether or not they will kill each other off and there are more and more instances as of late with them shipping with disease. I would look at getting some wrasses. Generally peaceful with many species, relatively reef safe (some might munch on smaller inverts) and they have plenty of color, activity and personality.

I'd avoid the damsels if I were you. I've had to go to more than one customer tank to get them out when they decided to kill each other.

Even damsels which get along today may begin aggression tomorrow. Its inevitable. I'm not sure there are ANY damsels which will get along when they mature.

The number of fish you can keep is also dependent on the size of your sump. My current 90 gallon reefer has a 75 gallon sump.

I have a 90 and feel pretty well stocked with
4 clowns (but would recommend only 2)
3 bangaii cardinals (but would recommend only 2)
1 Kole Tang
1 Foxface
1 Azure Damsel (would recommend no more than 1)
1 Flame Angel
2 cleaner shrimp
1 peppermint shrimp

If I only had 2 of the clowns and cardinals I would look at a goby or blenny of some sort.
