Frankie,
First off, excellent DIY post! I was actually looking on the web to order one and came across your post. I followed your specs and I'm almost finished. I didn't have any used small pumps around so I ordered one along with the media. I am going to have the denitrator and a 2nd non-recirculating reactor so I can have sulphur and matrix in the denitrator and then ARM in the second. My question is can i just put ARM in the second or do you think I will need to put Matrix in that also ( I will fill my denitrator up 2/3 with it - 2ft long 4" dia)? I had the 4" pvc, 3" pvc, 1" pvc , elbows and tees already from other house work so I didn't have to buy much. keeping the cost of the projects down = wife very happy |

Use the second reactor for the aragonite media only since this is the one that you will have to open from time to time. Matrix media together with Sulfur in the first chamber. Thanks for the comments and don't forget to post pics since it helps everyone else. djfrankie |

may be some one can jump in I run Kalk on a drip 24/7 to keep up with the CAL and ALk since I have 9 clams in my display. so my PH is high so running it with out the ARm I don;t think it would matter that much or have a grat drop in the Ph, However the Alk will be a issue with the alk I run mine at 9 DKH so going to 7 wont be so bad IMO if it stay there at 7 DKH

You can always throw in a couple teaspoons of white vinegar to your kalk mixture to help lower your high pH problem.

DJ, I finally got the shipment and got it installed, I have a question though, what whole should the intake actually flow through....Im just curious as from what I noticed there when i ran the tube through the hole below the pump, water actually flows out.........
On another note it looks great......and thanks for your help....

if you look at that picture on the right where the chamber has the vlave coming out on the left side the line from there it should travel to the bottom of the second chamber and then exit out the top of the second chamber its like a Dual stage Cal reactor...

If I'm understanding correctly you are using an API test kit and want to know if and when you add the first 10 drops out of the first bottle if the water turns slightly orange? Let me go test that right now and I'll get back to you. djfrankie |

Ok I guess I got missed.....
DJ, which "hole" should the feed come in through. I have been tinckering with it for the last hour and feel I am doing something wrong.....I put the PVC "mesh at the bottom then the blue foam then the sulfer media then a layer of ARG....then there is about 6-7 inches of water....before the what looks to be the outlet and inflow to the pump. I am thinking the bottom tube may be clogged, and the pump is forcing the water out of what should be the intake..... ANy ideas?

Ok I just looked again frankie and its as if there is an extreme difference in pressure, could it be that the Aragonite is not allowing flow through and causing an extreme decrease in pressure? Let me know your thoughts I literally had to walk away from it because of the frustration in not being able to figure it out myself.....

First pic - Bottle #1 (10 drops) Second pic - 10 drops added and waited 5 minutes. By the way the last 4 digits printed on each bottle indicates when the test kit was manufactured and if I'm not mistaken they expire within 2-3 years after manufactured. Can't remember the exact tiem period now. HTH, djfrankie HTH, djfrankie |

And yes the feed pressure coming into the reactor must be higher. Similar to a Calcium Reactor. How are you feeding it? djfrankie |

I must be stupid should I have another powerhead attached to this for inflow? Or do I just attach the inflow tube and put into my sump?

I think I figured it out....I did need another "feeder" pump pumping water into the intake...
