Blue Life Clear Fx Pro

Marine Depot posted a video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=571n7mqBcmc&t=1s ) on this new product today. As someone who is currently battling green hair algae I decided to give it a try. My question is do you think I can use it in a Carbon/GFO reactor? If not, do you think it would be ok to run GFO in the reactor and a bag of this in my return section of the sump. It says it should be placed in a high flow area of the sump.

This is the description from their website...

CLEAR FX PRO is an advanced all-in-one filtration media. BlueLife`s cutting edge technology is compatible with both fresh and saltwater aquariums of all sizes. The easy to use media is the most comprehensive and reliable solution for aquarists of all skill levels.

The proprietary blend combines a super carbon, hybrid phosphate resin and organic scavenger resin. CLEAR FX PRO works rapidly to remove organic pollutants while leaving behind essential trace elements effectively keeping aquariums clean, clear and healthy for months.

To use the product simply place the mesh filter bag within a high flow area of your filtration system. The media is compatible within both canister filters and standard sumps.

Granular Activated Carbon (GAC):
CLEAR FX PRO contains a coal based granular activated carbon (GAC). The product offers the hardest carbon available that will still work when used in water. The high surface area and durability of our unique carbon allows CLEAR FX PRO to last longer and prevent deterioration over time. Unlike other carbon based filtration medias, the extremely low ash content of CLEAR FX PRO will not lead to hole in the head or lateral line disease within your aquarium.

Hybrid Phosphate Removing Resin:
CLEAR FX PRO introduces a new and exciting technology to the phosphate removal process. Unlike competing medias, CLEAR FX PRO uses a hybrid resin that works more effectively than Granular Ferric Oxide (GFO) phosphate removers. The resin’s spherical beaded structure will not clump or clog. The long lasting, high capacity resin absorbs phosphates in half the time as a standard GFO and will not release phosphates back into the water after reaching maximum capacity.

Organic Scavenger Resin:
The scavenger resin in CLEAR FX PRO attracts your tanks organics, effectively controlling ammonia, nitrate and nitrite levels. The organic scavenger resin has a macro-porous design that will not clog as quickly as competing organic removers. The resin works hand-in-hand with our GAC to deliver clarity, stability and health to your aquarium water.

Product Specifications:
Sizes
- 225 ml (7.6oz): Treats 60 Gallons Freshwater, 30 Gallons Saltwater
- 450 ml (15oz) : Treats 120 Gallons Freshwater, 60 Gallons Saltwater
- 1800 ml (60oz): Treats 480 Gallons Freshwater, 240 Gallons Saltwater

Lifespan:
- 4 months saltwater
- 6 months freshwater
- Tanks with heavy bio-load should consider changing media more frequently

Benefits:
- Crystal clear water - Removes: odors, tannins, phenols, gases, pollutants, CO2, phosphates (PO4), silicates (SIO2), copper, metals and nitrogenous organic waste
- Does not actively remove essential trace elements
- Raises Redox (ORP) significantly
- Controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates
- Removes contaminants and irritants harmful to coral, compounds carbon can’t remove alone, light blocking impurities and organics that degrade water quality by reducing oxygen

I would not -- they use a resin for GFO & if you do regular GFO you would drop the phosphates too fast, possibly causing a problem.

I would buy separate carbon and GFO products so that I could control the ratio. The resins they mention might or might not work in saltwater. Something like SeaChem's Purigen would be worth considering if the tank needs more organics filtration, but I think that's actually rare.

Thanks for the info!

Going to give it a try for my 300g Fish Only tank. Have a large pool sand filter (no sand ...just bio-filter setup) that I will place the 1800 ml into.

PS Petmountain has an excellent price

It's weird that the container says 250 gallons but the info says 240 gallons....

It just arrived. The media comes in one large mesh bag. Unfortunately, I'll need to divide it into 3 equal parts/weights since my system (91-gals.) is smaller. I have extra mesh bags so will re-package it up after dividing it.

It's been a few months now, how did it work out for you? Any review?

It didn’t help with my GHA. I’ll be adding my last batch this week. I’m unsure if I’ll buy it again. But I do like the long lifespan.
