Salifert MAG test Changed?

So I just opened up a new salifert magnesium test and glad I looked at the directions! They have changed some.

You no longer add part A swirl for 30 seconds, add part B swirl for 10 seconds, then do the titration. It's similar to their calcium test where you add part A then 5 drops of part B then swirl for only 10 seconds, then start the titration.

I'll post photos of the directions from tapatalk in the next post.

Pics from tapatalk.

Pic of the expiration date on the new test

New test instructions.

Old kits instructions.

I do not know how old my old kit is, but I know I bought it only 6 months ago and it was well within it's expiration date.

Just wanted to post this to see if anyone else had noticed the change? If your like me, you assume the tests are the same and never read the directions.

I wonder what they did to the chemistry. Maybe the calcium sequestration is different, if that's part of the test.

I noticed my new Salifert Ca test now requires 10 drops instead of 8.

Hey @Vinny Kreyling, is your instruction sheet just the same flimsy paper as they have always been, or is it the newer thicker plasticized instruction sheet?

I only ask because I have another mag test with an expiration date later then that one and it is just like the original kit. But this new kit with different direction has a thicker plasticized instruction sheet, very similar to how the calcium test instruction sheet is now.

I think they changed that like over a year ago now. If you noticed, the instruction sheet isn't regular flimsy paper anymore either.

Not that the new kit's paper isn't flimsy, but at least it has a coating on it so it doesn't fall completely apart when it gets a few drops of water on it.

Paper is the same, no change.
My new Calcium kit has the new style paper with a glossy finish.

Kind of off-topic, but do you find it tricky to get that first drop in? Mine always shoots out as soon as I turn it upside down.

You either figure that before turning the container over or let it drop out then start counting.

The first drop is often mostly an air bubble. Squeezing the bottle slightly before turning it over, then releasing once inverted before squeezing out the drops or waste the first drop as said above.
