I really like Chromis School look. Before getting them I did my research. Asked around. The one comment I got was "Over time you will be left with only one". But I couldn't resist and got 8 Blue Green Chromis's (same size) about 8 month ago. They went thru the pecking stage, establishing dominace order. Then one died shortly, and there were 7. They swam nice as school for a long time. One by one they killed each other off, by not allowing the weakest to eat. But remaining school stay together. One out each time. I saved one since he swam weakly into net, and he is alone in another tank. I now have 3 BIG Chromis's left. They don't school anymore. There is an good Article about them in Coral Magazine VOL 13, No 2. Says you need to get them in higher numbers, preferably 10-12 depending on tank size (to diffuse the aggression). I want to increase the school to larger number, but LFS's don't carry big ones. Not sure it adding 10 small ones, to 3 big established ones is a good idea. |

Survival chances of Chromis viridis as a group are increasing if you can feed multiple times per day, let's say at least once per hour from 'sunrise' 'till 'dawn'.
Not per se more food, but spreading it out more even during daytime.

Thanks. It is a custom made from two of my friends. One response for the design and 3D printer work, another do HW/SW design to add weight sensor to detect empty feeder. I love my friends and love this nice unit.

I have a bout 15 to 20 chromic and lost count. It has been a while (more than a year) that I don't need to replace dead ones to keep the volume. But I remember the first year of this tank, I did have to replace dead ones to keep the number. I guess once coral grow to colony, they have more place to hide and rest. There is a very little one compare to others, she keep small size, but no broken fins or any damage, so I guess she is not easy to get enough food, but figure how to hide.

My ATI fixture is about 25 cm above water line. If I have new coral in tank, I will pull up my ATI fixture to 60 cm above, and gradually down in a week. Hope this help.

What beautiful colors. A full reef of one amazing coral colony after another!! It is really quite outstanding what you have accomplished in your tank.
