Well, I think I do have more time than you since my son already in college.
As you know I like to use doser, so whatever additive does not require shake first, I use doser instead of manually.

For Alkalinity, Ca, Mg, K+ I use home made solution and material from lab store.

For trace elements, I use AF component a,b, since it is easy to combine many trace elements to three bottles with a much reasonable price than KZ.

For cure solutions, I use KZ since I don't think AF has any. Such as A-balance, FWS, Booster, Cyano Clean, etc...

For bacteria, this part I still use KZ now, but may change to AF. Not decide the time yet.

For food, I use AF energy, build, vitality, and amino mix.

Here is something I miss reading; Back to the time I used KZ coral vitality, I double dose coral food to keep my coral happy on N/P zero environment. I did not realise AF energy contains copper sulphate, and my over dosing strategy seems affect some coral, especial red color. I can now see change after I stop dosing AF energy, and I hope it true to positive direction continually.

Hey Shih,

What do you have for the automated alkalinity monitor? I see that you have data logging.
I hear Neptune Systems will EVENTUALLY have one for the Apex, which is is quite exciting.

Are you saying that you found the copper sulphate in the Coral Energy made your reds pale in colour when double dosing ? Are you noticing reds getting better since stopping ? And do you plan on continuing to use Energy at the recommended dose.

I have noticed similar effects and really wish that AF didn't put copper sulphate in their coral food product (Coral Energy)

I use KHG as a beta tester for more than one year, and I think it is released.

Actually, I overlooked the product description from Aquaforest product detail till a Taiwan reefer remind me. My observation is so far it effect my red color coral most, but with proper dose, it has good return. I think we just need to find the boundary of dosing volume. I did cut AF energy completely now just for experience, and may use it again with more care later. I now swap back to KZ Coral vitaliser.

Happy New Year, RC friends.

My 2017 first FTS with RC banner fish, a Sohal Tang
Many coral colonies fragged to friends and some re-arrange to leave some space for my 2017 coming SPS shopping... I hope my LFS will get some SPS from Fiji. It has been a long time no Fiji coral in Taiwan... Sigh

Haha...It actually still has some spaces, not much, but some. I may continue support some new reefers in Taiwan with free frag to clean more spaces. For example, I took out this one (sorry, iphone photo) for friends, it got to be some space available ;-)

Just overcome Cotton Candy Algae problem recently, even I still not sure I won the battle or not. Only time will tell. Thanks.

I recently just re-arrange my KHG monitor to dry side to avoid monitor and salt damage it.

Regarding other dosing plan, I start using AF for trace element (component a,b,c) and balling (AF RMS), but keep using KZ carbon method with Bak and Start3, Coral Vatalize as coral food, and KZ A-Balance, Cyano Clean, Flatworm Stop for curing process. So far it looks good.

AF RMS is Aquaforest Reef Mineral Salt. It is designed to balance and recreate sea salt when a system dose calcium chloride and baking soda for Ca and Alkalinity supplement (like my tank). With appropriate dose of RMS, RMS will balance the extra sodium chloride. Full balling method care a lot on sodium chloride balance, however, many folks believe appropriate water change can also do the work.

When read carefully, I found AF’s Alkalinity supplement (AF KH buffer) has nothing different than baking soda on what AF claim its function is, so I choose Costco baking soda and mixed RD/ODI water with exact same ratio (80g to 1000ml). Then I dose exactly same amount of baking soda solution and RMS (25g with 1000ml).

For Alkalinity, Ca, Mg, and K+, i use my own solution since it is much cheaper. These dosages really depend on coral growing rate and Zeovit reactor consume.

For trace elements, I use AF component a,b,c, and I dose as AF suggested volume but separated to daily dosing.

For balling, I use RMS. Dosage keep exactly same as baking soda.

For KZ Coral vitalizer, I dose double the suggestion volume due to my coral needs.

For KZ A-Balance, Flatworm Stop, Cyano Clean, coral booster, I does as KZ suggested.

Hope it help.

I have Alk, Ca, Mg solutions figured out, but what do you use for K+ (What is in your home-make mix)?
I just ordered a K+ test kit, so want to start dosing K (Potassium) for the first time when it arrives.

I mixed KCL 250g with 1000ml RO/DI water, and adjust my dosage by reading Potassium (Salifert) test result. I think I start from 2ml daily.

What do you use for KCL. I see many pure powders sold for human consumption, I guess this is fine. Does it raise PH?

I did not observe PH change by KCl solution add, but my PH always high (8.5 ~8.8 w/ or w/o KCl) if no CO2 mixed to skimmer.

Can I ask you a question? how did you attached the light fixture cable to the motor? Do you have a photo by any chance?
