Chateo vs marine pure spheres

i have a hob filter for my 10 gallon reef with chateo growing like weeds have to cut it every week.
i was curious if the marinepure spheres work as efficient in lowering nitrites and ammonia compared to chateo. im thinking of replacing the chateo to marinepure spheres
would really appreciat your inputs

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

That said, in have 2 of the big blocks in my 90 and I struggle to keep nitrates at a detectable level. Not saying it's the blocks but I think they help

I use both. Think of the marinepure as extra live rock with extra surface area for more bacteria to grow on. MY first tank I could never get my nitrates under ten. My new setup I cannot get nitrates period. Chaeto and marinepure.

The spheres will work as well, but they aren’t big enough to have anaerobic zones so they will do nothing for nitrates and phosphates. You need the block for the anaerobic zone. As a matter of fact they may collect detritus and cause more issues than they will solve due to lack of maintenance. Currently you are exporting chaeto weekly but when you put these in it is easier to forget to clean the hob filter so more stuff will settle in there. It really all depends on your commitment to cleaning the filter and reasoning behind switching to the spheres. I have them in my sump and they do require maintenance. They are not a set and forget miracle cure.
