Kessil h80 or not?

Is the Kessil H80 worth the $120-130? Or is it better to go with a cheap grow light off Amazon for a refugium?

Depends on deep and width of your fuge. H80 will not provide huge coverage. I use A80 for my anemones in a small tank. It works great for them. For refugium I think a cheaper light can work. For A80, it covers about 12” diameter. I would expect a similar coverage for H80.

I’m verifying it is 20in tall. I need to make sure I have 12in of clearance between the h380 and the refugium if I’m going to use it. If not I will have to use the h80.

The H80 at only 15 watts will have a tough time penetrating a 20” deep refugium. I bought one to cover a 10x8x12 inch refugium in my Eshopps R-200 sump. Never actually put it to use as I scored a Turbo’s Aquatics ATS.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t cheto tends to float to the top. I’m may or may not put any mangroves in it or other micro algae.

Based on a lot of the reviews I’ve read, the H80 will be quite underpowered for a 20x12.5x20 inch area. Because of the length coupled with the narrow width of your fuge, I’d go with two of the Taotronics 36watt grow lights from Amazon...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01HP...otronics&psc=1

And here are the heavy duty goosenecks you’ll need to mount those bulbs over your fuge...

I'm using the h380 which is outstanding for growing chaeto. h80 is much smaller so perhaps a push for anything more then 12x12x12.

Yeah I have verified my refugium is 18in tall 20in long. If I install a h380 it would only be 6-6.5 in above the refugium. Talked again to BRS today they recommend running 2 h80s.

20” depth penetration is going to be a tall order for a 15 watt H80... pun intended.

i run an h80 to grow some chaeto but it's in a small space which is why i chose that specific light. i agree that 12x12x12 is probably the optimal size of fuge for that light.

I used a kessil h150 purple for a while on my refugium and it was an amazing light. Now it’s just sitting and collecting dust since I built my own leds for my algae scrubber.

The h380 at 6 inches will bleach the heck out of the chaeto. I have a bit of that problem and mine is 12 inches up.
